Business Smiths was founded by Simon Ellingworth and Trevor Finn in 2008. Simon has recently been hand picked as a small Business Expert for The Startup Donut a colabroation between Google and The Post Office

Simon and Trevor have 15 years’ experience in small business having owned, operated and sold several small businesses including a bedroom start-up that turned over £4 million in its fourth year.

‘Our experience as small business owners led us to set up Business Smiths,’ says Simon. ‘When we wanted marketing advice or help with a business plan, we couldn’t get the support we needed.’

‘We both had fairly extensive networks from our experience in small and large companies,’ explains Trevor. ‘So we contacted the network and asked for recommendations of experts in other business specialisms.’

‘We looked at every area of a small business and thought about the expertise that’s needed. For example, big company experience is perfect for a marketing specialist, as this is where the best marketing practices are taught.’

‘But the ideal small business accountant has small business experience, as areas like IR35 and quarterly VAT reporting aren’t really what accountants in big companies do.’

‘The first place we turned when we were looking for someone was the network we built – so we thought why not turn our network into a small business? Our network of experts is the perfect network for all small businesses.’
